Match Official Pre-Game Checklist

 

Here are some things to consider before the start of each match:

Ontario Soccer would like to remind all of our new and returning Match Officials about the importance of the pre-game checklist.

This is an important step to take to ensure all participants, spectators and Match Officials safety, and enjoyment throughout the course of the match.

Match Official Equipment Standards

It is equally important for Match Officials to be dressed within the rules of the game, as it is for the players.

This includes each official being dressed in the same colour jersey. Ontario Soccer have put together some examples of best practices for Match Officials equipment standards.

Things to avoid

Headwear/accessory:

  • Hats and gloves

Uniform:

  • Wearing similar colours as either team's jersey
  • Gloves are not permitted

Uniform bottoms:

  • Pants

Footwear:

  • Shoes that are not black or non-athletic footwear

Standard

Headwear:

  • No headwear

Uniform:

  • Referee and player uniform colour clearly distinguishable

Uniform bottoms:

  • Black shorts and black socks are the standard

Footwear:

  • Black running shoes/black cleats
